5. Environmental impact in connection with product disposal
Troldtekt can be composted in professional composting plants which use biomass to produce soil improvers. The cement in Troldtekt boosts oxygen levels during the composting process, while the wood adds organic material to the compost.
We strongly recommend depositing Troldtekt waste for composting at your local recycling centre.
Sorting Troldtekt waste
It is important to sort Troldtekt waste so that screws, nails and other materials are not mixed with the cement-bonded wood wool waste. It is also important to discard any residual mineral wool, roofing felt etc. We recommend that you deposit mineral wool waste at a waste disposal site. Large, regular and sorted volumes of Troldtekt waste can be classified as a homogenous by-product.
Composting
The sorted Troldtekt waste is suitable for composting processes because the high proportion of lime (CaO: approx. 34 per cent by weight volatile solids) contributes to accelerating the composting process, and the fibre structure improves the compost quality. The components of the Troldtekt waste enrich the compost and extend its applications.
Incineration
Troldtekt waste can also be burned in incinerators at waste disposal sites, and during this process the material contributes to combustion (lower calorific value approx. 1,000 kcal/kg volatile solids).
Return to factory and composting at KomTek Miljø A/S
The waste products which are generated from producing Troldtekt primarily consist of production waste such as off-cuts, sanding dust, discarded panel pieces etc. The waste products from production are shipped to the environmental facility KomTek Miljø A/S, which receives, processes and reprocesses organic residual products into soil improvers. KomTek only receives residual products which have obvious soil-improving or composting properties.
KomTek mixes the residual products from the Troldtekt production with other residual products, after which the residual products are composted indoors in large composting halls. KomTek then sells the final compost as biocompost to the agricultural and forestry sectors, or it is used in processed products such as top dressings.
KomTek Miljø A/S is ISO 14001-certified and EMAS-registered.
