Revamped historic hotel

Hotel Bretagne in Hornbæk enjoys a commanding lakeside position and has done so for more than 100 years. Over the decades, more and more of the surrounding land has been developed, but the hotel still offers beautiful views of the countryside.

Originally, the hotel was built as a sanatorium in 1896, and it is not hard to imagine that the air in this high location near the sea was extremely clean and healthy. In 1936, however, the sanatorium was transformed into a seaside hotel called Hotel Bretagne, but also served a number of other functions until 2015, when the building was again sold, opening in April 2017 under the same name.

The hotel has been extensively renovated from top to bottom, and is now a modern establishment, which has nevertheless not turned its back on its past as a seaside hotel. Many people come to stay for a relaxing weekend away, but the hotel now also boasts facilities for conferences or larger parties. Hotel Bretagne has a large restaurant overlooking the lake, Hornbæk Sø.

The wide range of events hosted at the hotel demand a lot in terms of the building’s functionality and comfort. The architects therefore suggested Troldtekt as a ceiling material for using throughout the building to ensure excellent acoustics and architectural coherence between the rooms on the ground floor at entrance level.

Complete solutions

In connection with the interior design of Hotel Bretagne, a beautiful orangery was added, which is linked to the main entrance. The reception area is, of course, situated in the middle of the building, from where there is access to a large meeting room, but also to a lounge with relaxing furniture and a fireplace. The breakfast restaurant and bar are also just off the reception. The short distance between the main rooms creates a pleasant, intimate feel, similar to that found in many other older seaside hotels.

In addition to using Troldtekt as a recurring material, it was also decided to install integrated Troldtekt speakers. According to Kasper Heebøll Harboe, one of the co-owners, the solution with Troldtekt acoustic panels and concealed loudspeakers works extremely well – both on a daily basis and in connection with parties!
