Authentic taverna with the taste of Greek summer

In Egaa, north of Aarhus, you can experience a little bit of Greece. Sevag's restaurant serves Greek food in its secluded location.

Mezé, tzatzíki and gyros. Greek cuisine abounds with delicious national dishes, and if you ask Sevags’ owner, there is simply nothing better. Sevag Aharounian, known affectionately as ‘the Greek’, was born on the island of Naxos. And it is the summer atmosphere from the Greek archipelago that the restaurant in Egaa recreates.

“I love Greece – the relaxed atmosphere, the homely decor and the tasty homemade food. I have brought all this together in the restaurant,” says Sevag Aharounian, who opened Sevags six years ago.

Sevag Aharounian can be found behind the counter himself most days of the week, chatting informally with the restaurant’s many regulars, whose names and orders he knows.

An extra home

The furnishings in the restaurant are particularly close to Sevag Aharounian’s heart. The rooms are adorned with photos and other personal mementos from his home country – and some of the chairs and tables are the iconic turquoise colour so quintessentially Greek.

“When guests come to my restaurant, I want them to feel like they are visiting my home. I spend almost all my time in the restaurant, so it is very important to me that people feel welcome,” says Sevag Aharounian. In fact, the large pictures on the walls often remind diners of their wonderful holidays in Greece.

Catering to a full house

The restaurant seats about 70 diners, and it is not uncommon for all the places to be filled. It is therefore also important to Sevag Aharounian that the acoustics are top-class.

“I love talking with my customers, and I enjoy the busy times in the restaurant. But when people sit eating, they need to be able to hear what the person on the other side of the table is saying,” says Sevag Aharounian.

Sevag Aharounian has 29 years of experience in the hospitality industry to draw on. So even before the restaurant opened its doors in Egaa, he knew that he wanted the ceilings to be clad in Troldtekt acoustic panels. Quite apart from dampening the noise from the many diners and the open kitchen, the acoustic panels add to the pure aesthetics in the restaurant by hiding the many pipes and cables a restaurant needs.
