The Cradle to Cradle principles serve as a strategic management tool, guaranteeing continuity and the development of the company’s work with sustainability.
At Troldtekt, we focus intensely on making a positive contribution to the environment. The international Cradle to Cradle design concept is at the core of Troldtekt’s business strategy. Consequently, Troldtekt is fully focused on sustainability throughout the life cycle of its products, from the extraction of raw materials and production to the use and reuse of the used acoustic panels.
Roadmap with objectives
Our Cradle to Cradle certification focuses on sustainability throughout product and production design. Via our Cradle to Cradle roadmap, Troldtekt’s environmental responsibility is immediately evident in our daily operations as well as in our long-term strategic decisions.

Sound production
The waste from producing Troldtekt acoustic panels is reused for energy or compost. We collect and recycle waste water, and 100 per cent of our electricity consumption is based on wind power. 100% of the energy for processing and heating the buildings comes from CO2-neutral fuels.
Collection of cement-bonded wood wool
At Troldtekt, we work systematically to ensure that cement-bonded wood wool waste from building sites is returned to nature as compost. These initiatives are only possible because – via our Cradle to Cradle certification – we have complete control of what our products contain.

These are some of the activities in which Troldtekt was involved in 2019 through our partnership with FSC Denmark.
Our two organisations have also joined forces in the media with a call for more certified forests.
Troldtekt acoustic solutions have been installed at the world’s first C2C LAB, which opened in Berlin in autumn 2019.
The renovated building serves as an educational centre, NGO office and a ‘living laboratory’ for Cradle to Cradle-certified building materials.
The green, liberal think-tank Fores in Sweden is a bridge-builder between politics, research and the business community. On arriving for meetings and events at Fores’s Stockholm office, visitors are met by sustainable elements from floor to ceiling.
And here Troldtekt’s design solutions play a key role.
Troldtekt supports the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. We have decided to focus on the two goals where we can make the biggest difference. In 2018, this resulted in a new and energy-efficient factory line and increased focus on FSC®-certified wood (FSC®C115450).
The past decade has been an uphill struggle for the printing industry. One of the companies to have survived is KLS PurePrint, which now produces Troldtekt’s printed matter. The company has managed to keep going thanks to its increased environmental focus.
UN member countries have adopted 17 common goals to ensure the balancing of the environmental and economic dimensions of sustainable development. Troldtekt is focusing on two goals in particular, and has helped to inspire other companies.
Troldtekt is increasing the proportion of sustainable FSC-certified wood used in production, and is now able to supply products which are ‘FSC 100%’-certified (FSC®C115450). At the same time, Troldtekt has phased out PEFC certification in order to focus on the FSC label.
As a manufacturing company, Troldtekt must document compliance with many different requirements to ensure that it does not negatively impact the environment. For example, in relation to noise, air pollution, waste management and wastewater.
In connection with the expansion of production in Troldhede, Troldtekt has decided to separate rainwater and wastewater on the entire factory site. It took some detective work to map the old pipelines, but significant benefits have been achieved in the form of a reduced load on the local wastewater treatment plant and less impact on the aquatic environment.
During a visit to Troldtekt, Tommy Mosgaard Jensen was inspired by the large piles of bark, a by-product from production. Completely in line with Troldtekt’s Cradle to Cradle approach, he decided to investigate whether the bark can create new value as a material for furniture production.
In Troldtekt’s production, there is now even more focus on ensuring that cardboard and plastic do not end up in the same container. A new sorting system means that it is easier for Troldtekt to ensure that the waste is handled correctly following disposal, and that as much as possible is recycled.
Troldtekt cement-bonded wood wool is made from the natural material wood, and cement extracted from Danish mineral resources and can therefore be returned to nature as compost.
A new take-back scheme means that Troldtekt waste now becomes an environmental resource.
