Acoustic solutions for sustainable building

Sustainable building

Buildings with documented sustainability are beneficial in terms of the environment, indoor climate, user-friendliness, well-being and running costs.

More and more developers and advisors are opting to have their new buildings certified to meet sustainability requirements. This can help reduce the property’s environmental footprint – and make it more financially attractive.

In its 2019 Green Market Study, Ramboll compiled the survey responses from nearly 400 Nordic property and construction experts. Fully 90% regard sustainability as a prerequisite for a successful project. The survey also shows that sustainable buildings have a 6–10% higher property value and attract higher rents on average, and 5–10% lower running costs.

A number of systems are available for voluntary sustainability certification of buildings. DGNB, BREEAM, WELL and LEED are four examples. The systems provide developers and advisors with a method for calculating how different decisions and choices of materials impact the sustainability of the finished building.

How does Troldtekt contribute to this?
Troldtekt’s acoustic solutions benefit the sustainability rating. This is explained in part by the fact that Troldtekt acoustic panels are Cradle-to-Cradle certified and that the acoustic panels are available as 100% PEFC certified (PEFC/09-31-030) or 100% FSC® certified  (FSC®C115450).

In collaboration with Ramboll, we document how our products enhance the various criteria specified in DGNB, BREEAM, WELL and LEED. However, the exact impact of the acoustic solutions on the certification assessment will always depend on the specific building and the other materials used.

DGNB logo

DGNB which stands for "Deutsche Gesellshaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen" is the German sustainability certification scheme for buildings completed since 2008. The Green Building Council Denmark (DK-GBC) has decided to follow the DGNB guidelines and adjust these to fit Danish requirements.

Troldtekt LEED logo

LEED which stands for "Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design" is the American sustainability certification scheme for buildings. LEED is administered by the U.S. Green Building Council and there are LEED-certified buildings in more than 135 countries.

BREEAM is the British sustainability certification scheme for buildings. BREEAM stands for "Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method".

In Great Britain, BREEAM is administered by BRE, which is one of the founders of UK Green Building Council. BREEAM is used in more than 50 countries and several European countries have developed editions of BREEAM that have been adapted for national use, among them The Netherlands and Norway.

WELL is an American certification scheme which was established in 2014. The certification is specifically targeted at enhancing human health and well-being in the built environment. WELL rewards a building based on a number of criteria, and is often used in conjunction with more technical certifications such as DGNB, BREEAM and LEED.

The WELL certification scheme is administered by the International WELL Building Institute™ (IWBI™), based in New York, USA.

Troldtekt acoustic solutions contribute positively to WELL building certification within areas such as material health, air quality and aesthetics.
