The lido Vestre Fjordpark in Aalborg and the new psychiatric hospital in Vejle were praised at the world’s largest presentation of architectural prizes, the WAN Awards. Troldtekt acoustic panels were used in both projects.
Two buildings featuring Troldtekt acoustic panels made it onto the international architectural scene when the World Architecture News Awards 2018 were presented in London on Tuesday 20 November. The WAN Awards is the world’s largest international architectural awards programme.
Vestre Fjordpark in Aalborg achieved a ‘Highly commended’ distinction in the ‘Sport in Architecture’ category. The 165,000-square-metre lido on the banks of Limfjorden in northern Jutland has facilities for diving, bathing, playing, ball games, running , parkour, kayaking and simply relaxing.
The lido has been elegantly designed by ADEPT and GHB Landskabsarkitekter with a strong identity, where wood is used as a unifying material, tying the different elements together. All the building facades are clad with Canadian cedarwood strips, while Troldtekt acoustic panels have been installed on many of the ceilings, also with wood as the dominant material.
Vejle Psychiatric Hospital was also ‘Highly commended’ at the WAN Awards 2018 – in the ‘Healthcare Buildings’ category. Arkitema Architects designed the project, which is based on the principles of healing architecture.
The architecture is characterised by glass, smooth transitions, easy access to green areas and a good combination of private patient rooms and public areas. Troldtekt was chosen as the ceiling material in large parts of the complex, because a pleasant acoustic environment is important for the patients, and because the texture of Troldtekt harmonised with the other materials.
