Troldtekt acoustic solutions have been incorporated into the world’s first C2C LAB in Berlin, which is a combined training centre, NGO office and ‘living laboratory’ for Cradle to Cradle certified building materials.
From 11 September 2019, architects will be able to experience and experiment with Cradle to Cradle certified building materials in a new knowledge centre in Berlin. These materials include the Troldtekt acoustic panels installed on ceilings and walls in the meeting rooms and conference room.
The 400-square-metre C2C LAB has been completely refurbished, so the furnishings fulfil the Cradle to Cradle criteria that materials must be healthy, so they can return to nature or be recycled in new products.
C2C LAB houses a training centre, offices for the Cradle to Cradle e.V. NGO and a ‘living laboratory’. The lab will give visitors the opportunity to learn more about the Cradle to Cradle model’s circular material flow.
Troldtekt acoustic panels consist of 100 per cent natural materials – wood and cement. The panels are Cradle to Cradle certified at silver level, and circular principles are a key part of our strategy. For example, offcuts and waste from our production can be used as soil improver or in the production of new cement at Aalborg Portland.
“The planet’s resources simply cannot keep up with traditional consumption patterns. There is therefore a need for sustainable innovation. The Cradle to Cradle model shows the way, by making tools available to allow companies to work systematically with the circular economy. We want to contribute to this trend – for the sake of society, and because sustainable production will become a key competition parameter in the years ahead,” says Peer Leth, CEO of Troldtekt A/S.
As a C2C LAB partner, Troldtekt is attending the C2C Summit in construction and architecture on 11 September in Umweltforum Berlin, where up to 300 participants are expected. Our Communications Manager, Tina Kristensen, will take part in a panel debate, sharing experiences and challenges from the work of implementing Cradle to Cradle – in the company, and in the value chain and construction sector.
Katrin Lompscher, Senator for Urban Development and Housing in Berlin, will make the opening speech at the C2C Summit, and Dr. Michael Braungart, co-founder of the Cradle to Cradle concept, will hold a presentation on buildings as material banks. The conference also marks the official opening of C2C LAB. There will be shuttle buses to the laboratory, where guided tours will be provided.
