"We want our customers to be inspired and positively surprised when they visit our showroom,” says Bent Povlsen, owner of X-Akt. “We therefore decided to renovate this old textiles building to create a unique setting with history and character. You won't find another store like it. The building's open spaces and split levels, green concrete floor, raw walls and rustic Troldtekt ceilings interplay extremely well with the products we sell. We could not have achieved the same result if we had built a new store."
The impressive showroom still looks much the same as when it was used for Herning's flourishing textiles industry around the middle of the last century. Even then, the building users realised that the open spaces, hard floor and raw walls created a need for good sound management. Troldtekt panels with a coarse structure were therefore installed throughout and they are still there to this day.
"We decided to leave the original ceiling in place for several reasons. It has soul and it was of course important for us to have good acoustics. If we had renovated the showroom-ceiling, we would still have needed an acoustic solution. The ceiling is over 40 years old but still provides excellent sound management. It also contrasts nicely with the well-known products from companies such as Vitra, Norman Copenhagen, HAY and others," notes Bent.
