Futurebuild in London: Complete focus on circular design

Innovative building solutions and the latest knowledge on sustainability. These were the main topics at this year's Futurebuild in London in March. Here, visitors had the opportunity to experience Troldtekt acoustics solutions and participate in knowledge sessions on healthy and innovative materials. Watch the two sessions in which Troldtekt was among the presenters.

17.04.2024

At Futurebuild in London from 5 to 7 March 2024, visitors were able to meet hundreds of building suppliers and experience innovative solutions for the buildings of the future.

As part of the programme, there were also 135 knowledge-sharing sessions, during which experts gave their perspectives on healthy and innovative materials and products.

Troldtekt showcased its products and delivered presentations during two of the knowledge sessions at Futurebuild.

Troldtekt as partner at Cradle to Cradle Certified® exhibition stand

On behalf of the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute (C2CPII), the 540 WORLD consultancy firm arranged the largest stand ever seen of the international Cradle to Cradle community. C2CPII is responsible for the internationally renowned certification Cradle to Cradle Certified®.

Troldtekt was one of a number of partners who welcomed visitors to the stand and this gave rise to numerous interesting discussions. Visitors were able to experience several different Troldtekt acoustic panels, which are Cradle to Cradle Certified® at Gold level, including the design solutions Troldtekt line and Troldtekt line design based on the carbon-reduced FUTURECEM™ cement.

Visitors also had the opportunity to see demo versions of digital material passports from Madaster, who are responsible for an online material platform for builders. One of the passports had been issued for Troldtekt's FUTURECEM acoustic panels and contained information about e.g. the environmental footprint of the product. Troldtekt panels made from FUTURECEM have a carbon footprint, measured across the entire service life of the product, that is 26 and 38 per cent lower than Troldtekt products made from traditional grey and white cement respectively.

CEO of C2CPII, Elwyn Grainger-Jones, interviewed Troldtekt’s Head of Sustainability & Communications, Tina Snedker Kristensen, at the stand. The interview will be included in the 'In Conversation: Leading Change' film series, which the Institute expects to publish by the end of May.

Session 1 on healthy and circular products

540 WORLD, which provides advice on Cradle to Cradle Certified, hosted the 'Achieve material health and circularity with Cradle to Cradle Certified®’ session.

Tina Snedker Kristensen spoke about how we have had a strategic focus on Cradle to Cradle for more than a decade. She touched on our work on material health, which is one of the five Cradle to Cradle Certified categories -- and an essential element in circular material life cycles.

The other presenters were:

  • Andrea Charlson, Managing Director, Madaster UK
  • Andrew Jackson, Business Development Director, Shaw Contract
  • Roslyn Hypolite-Achom, Specification Manager, EQUITONE
  • Angela Antolini, Marketing & Communication Director, Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute (moderator)

Session 2 on innovative product design

Troldtekt's Country Manager in the UK and Ireland, Steve Mansell, delivered a presentation during the 'Circularity Powering Innovation' session. In this session, material specialists shared their experiences of circular product design.

Steve Mansell explained how we at Troldtekt work to reduce the carbon footprint from our acoustic panels. The cement used in the panels accounts for the largest proportion of emissions, but, by using the new FUTURECEM™ cement type, we can cut emissions significantly.

Troldtekt panels made from FUTURECEM have a carbon footprint, measured across the entire service life of the product, that is 26 and 38 per cent lower than Troldtekt products made from traditional grey and white cement respectively.

The other speakers were:

  • Lucie Ladigue, Business & Policy Specialist, Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute
  • Dragan Bajic, Sales Manager Export, Mosa
  • Chaline Church, Founding Partner, 540 WORLD (moderator)
