Sanseslottet

Sanseslottet is the result of a 2009 competition for turnkey contractors. It was won by a team consisting of the contractors E. Pihl & Søn, the consultative architects from CEBRA A/S., the engineers D.A.I. Arkitekter Ingeniører A/S and the artist HuskMitNavn (RememberMyName).

The competition –designing a day care centre suitable for 112 children – was very tough but the winning project clearly stood out due to the thoroughly prepared concept, including its energy design and low costs.

Sanseslottet’s very scupltural 1300 m2 are characterised by a fine balance between its basic function and a desire to give children the opportunity to become acquainted with many kinds of experiences so that all the senses come into play. The main entrance faces west and leads to the heart of the building from where the children can enter five small “houses”.

There are many special details to interest the children and an abundance of decoration by the artist. The exterior is covered with white Trespa with windows at different heights. On the roof, triangular skylights form a landscape of coloured sculptures that appear different depending on the time of the day.

As in all day care centres, the acoustic environment is of the utmost importance for the well-being and comfort of both children and adults. Here coloured linoleum has been used on most of the floors and, together with Troldtekt acoustic panels, an effective acoustic environment is created even where many children are often gathered.

“The noise level is high so we have worked on minimising the reverberation time. We have used Troldtekt extensively and moreover, the geometry of the rooms helps to create a pleasant sound environment. In normal regular rooms, sounds bounce back and forth, creating the so-called Flutter effect. However, due to the skewed geometries of our layout, this is avoided”, say the architects from CEBRA.
