Newly opened restaurant in carefully restored post office

In the East Jutland town of Brædstrup, Restaurant Det Gamle Posthus has recently opened its doors. The restaurant is situated in the town’s former post office, where it serves classic dishes in a historic yet informal setting.

Brædstrup is a former railway town in East Jutland, located between Horsens and Silkeborg. In continuation of the old railway near the town centre lies a beautiful listed building that previously housed the town’s post office. PHC Ejendomme has carefully renovated the property where Restaurant Det Gamle Posthus has now opened its doors.

“It’s a very beautiful and historic venue, and there has been a huge level of support from the local community ever since we opened,” says Betina Heimann, who works as a waitress at the restaurant, which she runs together with her husband Tommy Pedersen and Knud Plougmann Rishøj.

More than just an eatery

The menu embraces both French and Danish cuisine, with all dishes being made from scratch using fresh and locally produced raw ingredients.  But just as important as the food is the restaurant decor.

“The interior plays a huge role in determining whether guests enjoy their visit. After all, it is possible to cook delicious food at home. Therefore, a good restaurant experience is also about creating the best possible environment in which to enjoy your meal,” says Betina Heimann.

The large, open kitchen, among other things, allows views of how the dishes are prepared.

Calming black ceilings

For a sense of intimacy, a dark floor has been laid and black Troldtekt acoustic panels have been installed on the ceiling. In addition to ensuring superior acoustics, the black ceiling also contributes to creating an ambience of hygge in the restaurant.

“We want our guests to feel comfortable. Therefore, a pleasant indoor environment with good sound levels have top priority, and there’s no denying that we’ve achieved that here. We receive a lot of positive feedback on both counts,” says Betina Heimann.

Different-sized tables and details such as a beautiful, old chest of drawers and a varied collection of sugar bowls contribute to the relaxed and informal feel. Large windows offer beautiful views of the square outside, while the large wooden terrace, which has been added as an extension to the facade, is perfect for al fresco dining during the warm summer months.
