Cool style

The SAS building on Amager Strandvej in Kastrup near Copenhagen has been transformed into modern serviced offices located close to both the airport and the motorway. The interior has been designed with respect for the original architecture.

The facades are white-plastered, but the post-modernistic feel shines through and gives the building its own identity. The building houses workshops, warehouse space and offices, which today constitute ‘Amagerstrand’, where companies large and small benefit from the numerous facilities and different space options.

The interior designers Vibeke Brinck and the architects Studio Heima transformed the interior of Amagerstrand in a refreshing style, while leaving traces of the building’s history untouched – for example the raw concrete construction.

The interior design work also included bright colours and effective acoustics control. The shared conference rooms, for example, are fitted with grey Troldtekt acoustic panels on ceilings and on one clean wall surface, which, together with carpets in the same colour as the panels, create visually and acoustically calm environments that will appeal to many different users.

Clean surface

In the former hall – now called ‘United’ – the perfect environment has been created for breaks, temporary workspaces and formal or informal meetings. Daylight floods down the double-height wall, and is reflected by the Troldtekt acoustic panels, which also ensure superior acoustics throughout the room. The wall is a clean and calm surface, yet a patchwork of changing shapes and textures.

Troldtekt acoustic panels in different sizes and textures have been combined – to highlight the living surface of the concrete. Other elements, like the red cable trays and blue meeting boxes, are reminiscent of 1980s aesthetics, and are a conscious way of remaining true to the building’s original design.

United is experienced as a coherent design and an inspiring environment, which is distinguished by its expansive and calm atmosphere.
