Architecturally striking new villa

A newly built villa in Klampenborg north of Copenhagen has been designed to meet the exacting wishes of the family living there with regard to texturality and materiality. Thanks to a constructive dialogue with the architect, the result is a well-designed home characterised by a harmonious relationship between spatiality and the materials used.

The large plot is situated next to a protected area, and the natural solution was deemed to be an elongated building growing out of the terrain and making the most of the beautiful location. The house is built from Kolumba™ brick, with fine detailing to mark the three obtuse angles in the exterior walls. The house extends from the kitchen at one end where the ceiling is 2.5 metres high to the living room at the other, where the ceiling rises up to 4.5 metres. Here, the Kolumba™ bricks are also used for an integrated wood-burning stove. Daylight floods into the living room from all angles, creating an atmospheric and dynamic play of light throughout the day.

Colours from nature
Troldtekt panels have been chosen for all the ceilings throughout the house. Troldtekt ensures comfortable acoustics, while also fulfilling the family’s desire for textural and robust materials. The choice of 600 x 2400 mm Troldtekt panels emphasises the property’s elongated form. The floors have been laid with wide, dark planks or dark brown 600 x 1200 mm tiles. On the way from the kitchen to the living room, the house is angled three times, with the ceiling and floors elegantly highlighting the change in direction despite the property’s impressive scale. The grey Kolumba™ bricks inspired the choice of Troldtekt acoustic panels in natural grey, providing coherence and at the same time contrasting beautifully with the white walls. Architecturally, the choice of materials adds an extra dimension to the building’s physical structure, helping to emphasise its identity and the client’s own say in the design.
