Høng School

The focus of the new Høng School is on the well-being of its pupils. Happy colours, round shapes and plenty of daylight typify what this school’s environment is all about. The two-storey building with a basement is a simple design with an orange classroom wing, another in red and others in three shades of grey. The design of the building makes it easy to extend in the future.

Colours are also very important internally and have been used to create recognition and to make it easier to orientate, while of dull rainy days they light up the rooms.  For example, round red circles on the floor and red on some of the walls emphasise the fact that you are in the red building.

The corridors are open and roomy and run through the building like a small street. Through the entire building, circles are used as a design element, for example in the corridors and the common rooms where circular skylights create a pleasant, diffused light. Also, round light fittings have been elegantly installed in the corridor ceilings, which give the spaces a different character to the classrooms.  In all of the rooms, Troldtekt natural ceilings has been installed and these create a cohesive calm throughout while in the classrooms, Troldtekt lights have also been added and fit perfectly into the ceilings.

Architect Lone Køhler from Hou + Partnere Arkitekter A/S explains that Troldtekt was chosen due to its calming influence as well as its very effective acoustic properties. The new school building has been designed as a low energy one so it makes perfect sense to use materials such as Troldtekt which benefit the indoor climate and are made of pure natural materials.

The architects were the turnkey contractors and also responsible for the furnishings and the landscape design. In this way, their architectural ideas have been beautifully executed both inside and outside and the school stands out as an inspiring and cohesive, future-proof building.
