Vorbildlicher Bauten“ with Troldtekt honoured in Hessen

02.12.2021

At the ‘Vorbildlicher Bauten’ (exemplary buildings) awards ceremony in the German State of Hessen, Alnatura Arbeitswelt and Kinder- und Jugendzentrum Pankratiusstraße were honoured in the Newbuild category. The two projects in Darmstadt both feature Troldtekt acoustic solutions in their interior design.

Sustainability was in focus at the awards ceremony organised by the State of Hessen and the Hessen State Chamber of Architects and Urban Planners (Architekten- und Stadtplanerkammer Hessen) on 19 November 2021 for the ‘Vorbildlicher Bauten’ awards. Due to the corona shutdown, it was the 2020 edition of the awards ceremony which took place.

The list of 124 nominees was whittled down to 12 projects, which won awards and distinctions across four categories. In the Neubau – newbuild – category, there were two projects featuring Troldtekt acoustic solutions:

Holistic sustainability with organic restaurant

The food retailer Alnatura’s new campus – Alnatura Arbeitswelt – has previously been awarded the highest DGNB sustainability certification (platinum), and in 2020 won the German Sustainability Award in architecture.

The jury for the Vorbildlicher Bauten awards in Hessen highlights among other things that “the Alnatura Arbeitswelt is impressive on account of the high quality of the building work as well as its holistic and sustainable architecture which stands out on several levels”.

Part of the concept at Alnatura’s 13,500-square-metre office building is the restaurant area, where the focal point is organic vegetarian dishes. For the restaurant, grey Troldtekt acoustic ceilings have been chosen, as they tie in well with the other sustainable materials used, such as wood and clay.  The building was designed by haas cook zemmrich STUDIO2050.

Play and learning for children of all ages

Kinder- und Jugendzentrum Pankratiusstraße, which was also praised at the awards ceremony in Hessen, brings together children of all ages under one roof. Troldtekt acoustic ceilings in natural wood ensure that indoor play and learning take place in an environment with superior acoustics.

The jury highlights, among other things, that “The architectural firm Waechter + Waechter in Darmstadt wishes to see sustainability as being about more than just technical core data on resource conservation: A central role is played by the architects’ views on the question of the durability of the materials used, the fundamental adaptability and flexibility of building structures and floor plans – as well as the question of beauty”.
