Health at the Top

Vordingborg is an old market town in southern Zealand. It has a rich history that includes the landmark Goose Tower, which is the only fully preserved castle tower in Denmark. On the outskirts of the city, a private health centre has just been built, known colloquially as ‘Sundhed på Toppen’ (Health at the Top).

The choice of location was a deliberate one. Firstly, the building has a highly visible façade that faces a busy road – Københavnervej – and secondly, it sits right next to DGI Centeret, which also deals with keeping the body in balance. Finally, 20 parking spaces have been built to ensure that the parking problems that the clinic experienced at the previous address in the city centre never arise.

Health and fresh air

Søren Bylling and Gunhild Rasmussen – a husband and wife chiropractor team – are behind the construction of the health centre, which shares its facilities with several other treatment services. The building itself is very simple in design. White concrete elements on two floors and a black hipped roof. On the roof, there is a 18 kW 60-panel solar array that greatly reduces air conditioning costs.

The entrance – or foyer – is also a double-height stairwell, and here there are white-painted Troldtekt ceilings that complement the simple minimalist style. The reception itself features a more homely atmosphere, with hardwood floors and wooden slats on the walls and counter. The space also serves as a large waiting room for clients coming in for various treatments. Later in the year, additional facilities such as a gym will be set up for specialised training on the first floor.
