Soft hues

When Karup Design moved to new premises in Herning, it was very important for the company that the interior design should support the company’s brand while also providing a pleasant working environment for its employees.

A major transformation was needed to turn the former industrial building into new offices and a showroom for Karup Design. The concrete floors have been sanded and all surfaces treated. In the middle of the large room, a large oak-covered box has been placed to create a ‘room within a room’. Featuring glass walls with glass doors, the meeting rooms, the canteen and the individual offices still very much feel part of the large, industrial space.

All interior design was handled by Reinholdt//Rud, a design studio that has succeeded in creating a highly cohesive and balanced décor for Karup Design. The glass sections are defined by black frames and door handles, and they can be covered partly or completely by long external curtains that lend softness to the entire room.

Natural light and grey surfaces on the ceiling

Natural light is beautifully distributed throughout the room, flowing in primarily through longitudinal skylights in the shed roof. The ceiling surfaces opposite are clad with grey-painted Troldtekt acoustic panels which help create superb acoustics in the offices and showroom.

The soft, grey tone ties the room together and works well with the rest of the colour palette. The same grey was selected for the radiant heating panels in the ceiling, while the other ceiling installations are made of steel.

Karup Design manufactures furniture, which is displayed in the showroom. The furniture is simple and multifunctional, in wood and pastel colours. Designer Heidi Reinholdt explains that creating the interiors for Karup Design in the former industrial building was an interesting process, and one which focused on carefully tailoring the interior design to the space itself and not least the Karup Design DNA.
