Troldtekt receives one of this year’s awards for restaurant and bar solutions

The Cradle to Cradle-certified Troldtekt® design solutions based on the FUTURECEM™ cement type has won a “Die schönsten Restaurants & Bars 2023” award. German publisher Callwey is behind the award, which celebrates restaurants where careful thought has been given to the details of the décor.

Good restaurants and bars combine the dining experience with a beautiful, well-functioning interior. The Callwey publishing house honours this combination through its “Die schönsten Restaurants & Bars” design awards. The awards have just been presented for the fifth time – with Troldtekt as one of the recipients.

Troldtekt design solutions based on the FUTURECEM low-CO2 cement type were honoured in the “Solution of the Year – Wall and Floor Design” category. The award-winning design solutions combine a healthy indoor climate and good acoustics with a range of distinctive designs.

“It is an honour to be recognised with one of Callwey’s awards, which we also received in 2022 and 2021. We emphasise giving clients, architects and designers great flexibility to design restaurants and bars where acoustics and aesthetics interact. A big thank you to Callwey and the jury for recognising this,” says Steffen Riedmann, Country Manager at Troldtekt GmbH.

Made of wood and cement with reduced carbon footprint

Like Troldtekt’s other cement-bonded wood wool products, the design solutions – in both natural wood and standard colours – are certified according to the sustainable Cradle to Cradle design concept at Gold level.

The use of the FUTURECEM cement type means that, throughout their life cycle, the acoustic panels have a carbon footprint that is respectively 26 and 38 per cent lower than Troldtekt based on traditional cement. The other raw material in the acoustic panels is red spruce from certified Danish forests (FSC®C115450 and PEFC™).

“A visit to a restaurant or bar should be a positive experience. Interiors and indoor climate are an important part of that experience. More restaurants than ever before are taking acoustics very seriously and, at the same time, they want to choose healthy building materials that also match their visual style. Our solutions fit in well here,” Steffen Riedmann says.

Troldtekt’s design series includes 11 different acoustic solutions, which use CNC-milled patterns, varied colours or special dimensions to create just the right ambience in restaurants and bars.

FACTS:Die schönsten Restaurants & Bars 2023”

  • The awards honour restaurants, bars, bistros and cafés. Architects, planners and restaurateurs in Germany, Austria and Switzerland were invited to enter their best projects.
  • The awards are organised by the publisher Callwey in collaboration with the Association of German Interior Architects/Designers and the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (DEHOGA), the international trade fair for hotels, restaurants, catering, baking and confectionery (INTERNORGA) as well as the media partners AHGZ Allgemeine Hotel- und Gastronomie-Zeitung and the SIGNAL IDUNA GRUPPE as well as the German magazine for hospitality, design and culture IDEAT FALSTAFF PROFI and GastroSuisse’s GASTROjournal magazine.

  • A total of 50 projects across categories have been honoured at this year’s awards. Among them were the Cradle to Cradle-certified Troldtekt design solutions based on FUTURECEM.
