World Green Building Week: Troldtekt partners with host DGNB
Companies and organisations from over 100 countries will come together to raise awareness of sustainable construction during World Green Building Week on 23-29 September. DGNB - the champion of sustainable construction in Germany - will host the event, with Troldtekt as a partner.
World Green Building Week is a global event focusing on how construction can contribute to a greener world. This year’s motto is #BuildingLife, with a special focus on carbon emissions. Construction and buildings account for around 40 per cent of the world’s energy-related carbon emissions.
Troldtekt is one of the companies supporting World Green Building Week. We do this primarily in Germany, where we are a partner of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen (DGNB) – the organisation hosting the event.
Focus on sustainable office building during opening
We will take part in an opening event in Stuttgart on 23 September. Architects, politicians, investors and other players will gather here to learn more about the new Alnatura Arbeitswelt in Darmstadt, which has been built using cutting-edge sustainable materials and technology.
The 13,500-square-metre complex is the largest office building in Europe to have a clay exterior wall. With a wooden roof structure, rooftop solar panels and geothermal wall heating, Alnatura Arbeitswelt has been designed based on sustainable principles. As a result, it has been awarded DGNB’s highest sustainability certification – platinum. Troldtekt acoustic ceiling panels, which are also a 100% natural material, were chosen for the restaurant/cafeteria.
Troldtekt contributes to certifications
It makes perfect sense for Troldtekt to partner with DGNB in hosting the World Green Building Week. Our acoustic panels consist of wood and cement, and are certified under the internationally recognised Cradle-to-Cradle design concept. Our work is therefore based on principles that match the DGNB certification criteria – as well as a number of other international sustainable construction certifications.
The Rambøll engineering company has documented that Troldtekt acoustic panels can contribute towards more than half the points in a DGNB certification. This documentation makes it easier for DGNB auditors to calculate Troldtekt’s contribution. Rambøll has prepared similar documentation packages for Troldtekt’s contribution to the other leading certifications – LEED and BREEAM.
