The Mayor Hotel Aarhus

The Mayor Hotel in Aarhus Denmark, for many years a traditional city centre hotel, was recently extensively renovated and transformed by its new owners. More space has been created for custom-made furniture and refined details, giving the building its own personality and distinct identity, ensuring each guest has a truly memorable visit.

Next to the hotel reception is a restaurant with views of bustling city life outside. Here, the original marble floor has been given a deep polish and restored to its former glory. The adjoining lounge boasts the same magnificent floor, which harmonises with the tall windows, wood panelling and the inviting fireplace.

The potential of the existing high windows has never been fully realised because of the room’s suspended ceiling. Now, a new ceiling raised above the windows not only emits more daylight but also creates an exciting interior. While it draws on inspiration from classic French cafés, Troldtekt rhomb ceiling panels were installed with elegant brass pendant lamps from Okholm Lighting. The rhomboid pattern breaks the ceiling up into smaller fields to create a livelier and more interesting surface that matches the multi-angled room.

For Simon Sjøgaard and Mikkel Selmer, the architects commissioned to modernise the lounge, good acoustics always have a high priority. They were very positive about using Troldtekt panels after installing them at La Cabra in Aarhus’ Latin quarter, which they also refurbished in 2015. According to Sjøgaard and Selmer, Troldtekt is a straightforward and sustainable acoustic material with its own inherent beauty, while the panel arrangement can have a key influence on the overall feel of a room.

Troldtekt rhomb panels open up a wealth of possibilities for creating exciting effects together with modern and sustainable wall and ceiling solutions.
