Multifunctional school pavilion
In the Sasel district of Hamburg, the school community at the Gymnasium Oberalster secondary school joined forces to create a modern break room extension designed by KLETA Architekten from Hamburg, which serves as a canteen, break and event room in one.

School community project
Because there wasn't enough space for the students of Gymnasium Oberalster (GOA) in Hamburg to eat lunch in the break room, an extension was essential. However, as the school authority was only able to cover project management and the ongoing operating and maintenance costs, the school had to finance the construction, which cost around 300,000 euros.
And, as in the past with the building of the hall, everyone once again pulled together for the new pavilion and followed the call for donations from the school and school association.
Multifunctional flat roof construction
The new single-storey reinforced concrete building with curtain facade and green flat roof is now complete and connects to the existing break room at an angle. Around 80 pupils can eat in the space spanning almost 100 square metres. In good weather, another 40 seats can be set up on two terraces.
The pavilion with underfloor heating, flooded with light thanks to many floor-to-ceiling windows, can also be used for concerts, cinema showings and other events and as a break room. The windows with dark aluminium frames can be partially slid open to provide additional barrier-free access to the outside.
White acoustic ceiling adds a creative touch
Colourful chairs, a light linoleum floor and white walls create a generous and inviting overall impression. Matching white acoustic panels from the elegant design solution Troldtekt v-line were installed on the ceiling. Three additional acoustically effective wall areas were fitted with framed wood wool panels, which together with the ceiling panels, play a central role in terms of acoustics in the approximately 100 square metre room and impressed the school community with their Cradle to Cradle certification at Gold level.
