At Troldtekt, we work systematically with documented sustainability measures. We do this, for example, based on Kingspan Group’s global sustainability programme, Planet Passionate. The programme applies across the Group’s companies in more than 80 countries.
Planet Passionate runs from 2020-2030 and sets the direction for Kingspan’s work with CO₂e reduction, energy, circularity and water across the Group’s companies. At Troldtekt, we contribute through specific, tangible initiatives in our production, products and value chain.
In 2025, Planet Passionate was updated with new targets, while other targets were made more ambitious. This makes the programme even more ambitious and supports the direction Troldtekt is already working towards.
The purpose of Planet Passionate is for Kingspan to have a positive impact on three global challenges: climate change, circularity and the protection of the world’s natural resources.
Kingspan wants to make a difference with advanced materials, building systems and digital technology. The Group has its own innovation centre, IKON, where new initiatives are developed to help Troldtekt and Kingspan’s other companies meet their ambitious goals.
At Troldtekt, we are working continuously to reduce the lifecycle embodied carbon of our acoustic panels, both in our own production (Scope 1 and 2) and through the materials we purchase (Scope 3).
A large part of the impact of Troldtekt acoustic panels comes from the binder. That’s why we work with cement types and binders with lower lifecycle embodied carbon.
In addition, we have been working with renewable energy in our production for a number of years. The development of the CO₂e impact of our products is documented in Troldtekt’s environmental product declarations (EPDs).
For a number of years, Troldtekt has been working systematically to increase the proportion of renewable energy used in production, while also reducing energy consumption per square metre of cement-bonded wood wool produced.
In 2025, 98.8 per cent of our energy consumption came from renewable sources. Heat comes from our own biomass boiler, where we use wood chips and residual wood from production, while electricity is based on offshore wind and our own solar power generation.
At the same time, we work with energy management and heat recovery in the drying process. This gives us a better overview of energy consumption and enables us to use energy more efficiently in our day-to-day operations.
At Troldtekt, we work with circularity based on a resource hierarchy in which longevity, reuse and recycling are given high priority.
That’s why our work begins with the long service life of the acoustic panels. When the panels can no longer remain installed in one building, it is often possible to reuse them directly or recycle them in a new cycle.
Clean cement-bonded wood wool offcuts from building sites can be returned via Troldtekt’s take back scheme, while production residues from the factory can be incorporated into new cycles.
At Troldtekt, we work with water where relevant in our production and on the factory site.
We do not contribute directly to Kingspan’s goal of collecting rainwater for use in production, but we work strategically with Water & Soil Stewardship as part of Cradle to Cradle Certified®. In addition, we have separate sewerage systems and collect rainwater during heavy rainfall.
Thanks to new heat exchangers in the drying plant, from 2026 we also expect to be able to reuse condensation in the casting process, thereby reducing the need for water in the production process.
Troldtekt has been working strategically with the Cradle to Cradle Certified design concept since 2012. The work is closely linked to Planet Passionate, as both approaches focus on documented improvements in areas such as materials, climate, energy, water and circularity.
