New acoustic solution: An easy choice for better acoustics
Baierl & Demmelhuber Hoch- und Ausbau GmbH specified the new acoustic solution Troldtekt® Plus with fleece for the construction of a new school building in Bavaria. Thanks to the lightweight wood wool panels, the school meets the stringent requirements in terms of acoustical performance and design. The minimal panel thickness also facilitates easy and efficient installation.
It is critical that students are able to concentrate in lessons and hear what the teacher is saying in the classroom, especially at the very back where speech intelligibility can suffer from reverberating sound. Regulations state that schools need to meet specific acoustic requirements (as they do in the UK under BB93). For the BV Landshut Ost primary school in Bavaria, the contractor therefore proposed the new acoustic panels Troldtekt® Plus with fleece across the ceilings.
"It was crucial to meet the client’s requirements and we were able to do so with Troldtekt products. After extensive discussions with the client, expert advice from Troldtekt and an impressive trial installation, we decided on the solution. But ultimately, it was the functionality, coupled with the visual appeal, that was the deciding factor," commented Jürgen Eisenrauch, project manager at Baierl & Demmelhuber Hoch- und Ausbau GmbH.
Troldtekt Plus with fleece is a newly developed series of lightweight wood wool panels with a thin acoustic fleece. The combination improves acoustic performance - while also making the solution easy to handle, store and install. The panels are available in thicknesses of 15, 25 or 35 mm. The 25 mm variant was chosen for this project in Landshut. As a suspended ceiling, this absorbs up to 95 percent of sound (αw = 0.95).
Easy installation and efficient logistics
As soon as the acoustic panels were installed on three large test areas, the benefits were clear.
"The work with Troldtekt products including cutting, milling and installation, went smoothly. The precision manufacturing of the panels is perfect, both in terms of the dimensions and their angularity. Both factors are key for efficiency and quality on the construction site," says Jürgen Eisenrauch, adding:
"The construction and weight of acoustic panels with acoustic fleece has many advantages. Transport costs are reduced and logistics on the construction site is more efficient - not to mention the easier installation and reduced physical effort for our installers."
Suitable for most building types
Based on his initial experiences, Jürgen Eisenrauch sees great potential in Troldtekt Plus with fleece. He emphasises that the solution is suitable for schools, nurseries, offices, retail and other buildings where good sound absorption is important.
"The sound-absorbing properties combined with the low weight, easy transportation and storage, topped off with the simple processing, are strong arguments for specifying this product. The quality is consistently good and the easy processing saves time and therefore costs," he says.
About Troldtekt Plus with fleece
- · Troldtekt Plus with fleece is a 15, 25 or 35 mm thick lightweight wood wool panel with a specially developed acoustic fleece applied to the back. The solution ensures top class sound absorption.
- The solution is most effective as a suspended ceiling with an installation depth of 200 mm. Depending on the panel thickness, they can absorb between 90 and 100 percent of sound (αw = 0.90-1.00).
- Troldtekt Plus with fleeceare fire tested and classified in accordance with EN 13501. Panels are available in both B-s1,d0 and non-combustible A2-s1,d0 grades as required by the project.
- Specifiers can choose between painted and unpainted acoustic panels, in three different structures and as a classic wood wool panel or from one of four characterful design solutions.
