Seven projects featuring Troldtekt in the field

Below, you can read about the seven projects featuring Troldtekt which are in the running for the Building of the Year 2022 award.

NEW AARCH in Aarhus is Denmark’s first ever newly built school of architecture. ADEPT acted as consultants on the project, which is characterised by its raw design with concrete, glass, wood and steel as the recurring materials. The open spaces and drawing studios feature grey Troldtekt acoustic panels, while the more enclosed rooms – or ‘toolboxes’ – in the concrete cores have black Troldtekt ceilings.

Erlev Skole south of Haderslev in southern Jutland was designed by Arkitema Architects, and is one of the biggest wooden structures to have been built in Denmark in recent times. Troldtekt acoustic panels contribute to the superior acoustics at the school. And also, in fact, to the healthy air quality, as the choice fell on Troldtekt ventilation, in which the ventilation system is concealed above the acoustic ceilings.

Klimatorium, designed by the architectural firm 3XN, is an innovative climate centre located on the west coast of Denmark. The choice of materials was inspired by the nearby boat sheds, and a raw, rustic look has been created using wooden, concrete and steel elements. In many of the rooms, Troldtekt acoustic panels have been installed on the walls as harmonious elements in a simple architectural design.

The Isfuglen winter bathing club at Brøndby harbour on the southern outskirts of Copenhagen now has excellent new facilities for members meeting up to enjoy an icy dip and sauna together. The new clubhouse was designed by Matters. Indoors, members have access to a sauna with panoramic views of the harbour, the sea and beyond. The interior walls of the large entrance area with kitchenette are clad with Troldtekt acoustic panels, which accentuate the warm atmosphere and ensure superior acoustics.

Søhesten in the Godsbanen district in central Aarhus is a residential development that ranges in height from ten down to three storeys. From above, the staggered buildings resemble a seahorse – hence the name – that curves from the city centre and out towards the green river valley Aarhus Ådal. Cubo Arkitekter designed the project with black Troldtekt acoustic panels in the communal areas and Troldtekt panels in natural wood in the stairways.

KAB Huset is the new head office of KAB, a community of non-profit housing associations and residents, and is designed to support the sense of community that pervades the organisation’s work. Henning Larsen Architects designed the building and was also responsible for the interior design. Wood dominates the interior – including Troldtekt acoustic panels in natural wood. In the meeting rooms and telephone call centre, Troldtekt ventilation has been installed, ensuring fresh air without draughts, noise or visible installations.

The theatre Odsherred Teater, designed by Christensen & Co Architects, is a cultural dynamo that engages closely with the local community. The black terracotta brick facade is reminiscent of the main stage curtain, while the large windows in the facade give passers-by a glimpse of theatre life. Inside, black Troldtekt acoustic panels help to ensure the right acoustics.
