The special ‘EWA Jubilee Award 2022’ was presented at the end of October by the European Waterpark Association (EWA) to mark its 20th anniversary. The winner was the new water park Rulantica in Rust in south-west Germany.

Rulantica is built as a mythical water world comprising nine beautifully themed areas and featuring mermaids, monsters and trolls as well as 17 water slides, wave pools and much more. The water park covers an impressive 40,000 square metres. The park was designed by the Hamburg-based architects pbr Planungsbüro Rohling AG.

Grey Troldtekt acoustic panels have been chosen to temper noise levels as children and bathers have fun in the waves. Troldtekt panels have also been used in the changing rooms and in the hotel foyer.

In addition to ensuring pleasant acoustics, Troldtekt is perfect for wet rooms, as the acoustic panels can withstand high temperatures and humidity. Troldtekt has achieved the CE marking’s best class (D) for water resistance.

A unique story is rewarded

Rulantica was presented with the EWA Jubilee Award 2022 because of the bold choices that were made in connection with the design of the water park, says the EWA:

”The judging panel was particularly impressed by the fact that the idea did not simply copy famous success models from the USA for example, but that its uniquely consistent implementation makes history in terms of the basic principle behind the overall design. This represents a milestone in the development of the European swimming pool landscape.”

The award was presented at an event on 27 October 2022 at the Porsche Museum Stuttgart.
