It takes 14 minutes to travel to the new Science Village in the north-easternmost part of Lund. The iconic building Space, which is an office building (and more), can be found right next to the station and the green Rydberg Square. The new project won the "Zero CO2 project of the Year" award at the Sweden Green Building Awards 2023.

The 6,300 square metres of Space comprise a hub for businesses and researchers coming together to develop sustainable solutions for the future. All this happens in a building that sets completely new standards when it comes to sustainability. The architectural firms FOJAB and Frøslee AB have designed the project by commission from the client, Fastigheter AB.

In 2023, Space became the first office building with laboratory facilities to achieve Zero CO2 certification from the Sweden Green Building Council. The certification means that the net climate impact of the building is zero. This requires, among other things, a clear strategy when it comes to choosing construction materials, and emissions from the construction phase must be in line with with e.g. the production of sustainable energy and approved climate compensation measures.

Lively environment with excellent acoustics

Space has been constructed as a hybrid structure, using wood as the primary material. Outside the building itself, exterior glass walls have been installed and these encapsulate parts of the relaxed terrace where employees -- and guests -- can meet surrounded by nature.

Indoors, several Troldtekt acoustic solutions play a central role both in terms of acoustics and visual appearance. One example is the wall panels in the large atrium, which are clad in the Troldtekt tiles design solution, providing beautiful patterns Other wall areas in the space feature Troldtekt line.

Classic Troldtekt panels have been chosen and installed using visible ceiling tracks.  All Troldtekt solutions are designed using natural wood, which perfectly complements the other wooden materials used in the building.

In addition to the zero CO2 certification, which led to the award, Space has also been certified in accordance with the WELL and Sweden Green Building Council Gold standards. Troldtekt has made a positive contribution to both of the certifications.
